Blunt Rochester Introduces Trade Assistance for Farmers Act

Statement

Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), introduced H.R. 2690, the Trade Assistance for Farmers Act of 2019. The bill would expand the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program to include farmer, growers, and producers negatively impacted by retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports. Today, Senator Doug Jones (D-AL), also introduced the Senate companion to the bill.

"While there is a real need to hold China and bad actors accountable for trade imbalances and currency manipulation, this Administration's policies have made American farmers collateral damage in a trade war," said Congresswoman Blunt Rochester. "In an already difficult agricultural economy, farmers have braved plummeting commodity prices and soaring tariffs -- all amid growing uncertainty about markets around the world. China's recent announcement of additional retaliatory tariffs highlights the need for this important bill, and in these uncertain times, our farmers deserve a permanent solution to this problem. The Trade Assistance for Farmers Act of 2019 will do just that; helping impacted farmers, growers, and businesses get the assistance they need in current and future agricultural markets."
